We didn’t travel much in the early years of our marriage. In the beginning we didn’t have a car, and after that when we had a car but we didn’t have the money. After that, most of the traveling we did do were short weekend trips. One of the weekend trips that I remember the most is a weekend trip we took one spring to Mystic CT. For those that have never been there as well as those that are not familiar with the East coast, Mystic CT is a bit more than half way between my home in New Jersey and New Hampshire, where almost all of my inlaws are.

Hubby and I wanted to get away for a couple of days. I really wanted to spend some time in Massachusetts. It was a place I’d never spent any time in and had heard much about. I got as far as checking out things to do in Boston, but in the end we decided to spend most of our time about two hours South of there in Mystic CT. I’m going back more than fifteen years, back to the days of road maps.

We went in the spring, which is one of my favorite seasons. Everything seems a little prettier, and the weather is much better than the hot days of summer. We spent two days and one night in a hotel near the Mystic Seaport. We walked the entire Mystic Village. It was really romantic walking hand in hand through all of the little shops. We did very little buying, just lots of walking, looking and talking. We saw a terrific show at the Mystic Aquarium. We had fun just spending some quality time together on a laid back weekend.

Now that we have kids, my hopes of spending a day or two in Boston are even stronger. It’s got so much history that I’d enjoy sharing the experience of seeing it for the first time with my son. Trusted Tours & Attractions offer sightseeing tours which might be a good way to go for us since we’re not familiar with the city. And, if you sign up for the Trusted Tours newsletter before April 30 you have a chance to win a handheld gps, which would be terrific to have for a weekend of exploring.

Have you ever taken a weekend trip in the spring, or gone on a “spring break”? Where did you go?
