Being Valentine’s Day and all, I decided to go in search of love. I didn’t have to look far. The EarthCam Valentine’s Day Cams feature cams in Las Vegas wedding chapels, NY Times Square, Prague, The Eiffel Tower, Trafalgar Square, Little Italy and St. Croix. My favorites were the two Las VEgas wedding chapel cams.
New Jersey is within a few hours drive from many well known locations and attractions. One such place is Mystic, Connecticut, home to the webcam featured in this week’s Saturday Safari. The Penguin Webcam is located at The Mystic Aquarium. Check out live penuin action between 9 and 5 pm est. We’re a little more than three hours from Mystic.
I’m about five hours from Boston, Massachusetts. I’ve never spent any time there, I’ve only driven through it on my way to and from New Hampshire. I know they have a lot of things to do and see there. Today I found a Giant Ocean Tank webcam, located at the New England Aquarium in Boston. It’s called the Boston Cam. (Wouldn’t it make more sense to call it the New England Aquarium cam, or the Boston Aquarium cam?) You can clearly see tons of fish and even some sharks. It looks pretty neat, I’d like to check the aquarium out.
With the inauguration having received so much attention it’s probably not a surprise that I’d be thinking about Washington DC. The webcam for this week’s Saturday Safari is the Capitol Cam, It’s located on Capitol Street in Washington DC. Viewers can get a look at the US Capitol, the Capitol Mall, Union Square and the Washington Monument.
Many of us saw or heard the news this week of how a jet taking off from LaGuardia landed in water approximately three minutes after taking off. It’s amazing that everyone got off safely and I do believe it is due to the way the captain handled the situation. So I find the Hudson River on my mind this weekend. The plane landed in the Hudson river not far from the ISS Intrepid. I learned that there’s actually a webcam on top of the ship called the USS Intrepid Cam. I wonder if anyone watching on the day of the plane crash saw anything.
It flurried for a little while this morning. It’s gone. It’s raining a little now and overnight it’s supposed to turn into sleet and ice, then snow. Yesterday morning when I left for work the stars in the night sky were beautiful. I found the Aurora webcam located in Fairbanks, Alaska. It’s got terrific footage of the Aurora Borealis. They’ve got a great view and I saw some really beautiful footage. The greenish color is beautiful while also sort of mysterious and eerie. Have you ever been to Alaska or seen the Aurora Borealis?
Well, this week’s safari goes everywhere and nowhere specific. Earthcam has a whole New Years page up featuring webcams in a number of cities. It was a lot of fun to watch the New Year begin in so many different places. Webcams were broadcasting in the US from New York, Las Vegas, Miami, Key West, Memphis and Seattle. There were 13 cameras set up for Times Square, New York alone. Cities in other countries with webcams up were Prague, London, Paris and Niagara Falls.
Well, you might be able to guess what I was thinking about this week. That’s right, it’s the holidays. I found Alek’s Christmas Webcam, located at his family home in Colorado. This man puts up an amazing amount of lights. The lights can be controlled by internet visitors and are on from 5pm to 10pm. Donations given help fund research on Celiac Disease. You’ve got to check this one out!

After a strange telephone call from my youngest brother I find myself thinking about him a great deal. He’s currently stationed in San Diego, CA. For this week’s Saturday Safari I’ve headed to the West coast, to the San Diego Zoo. The webcam is The San Diego Zoo’s Panda Cam. There are four pandas there. While I watched today I saw some great footage of them relaxing and playing.
I find myself thinking about Florida, where my parents will be heading in a few days. It’s got to be warmer there then it is here. I found a webcam located at an Orlando waterpark, in Florida. The Clarion Waterpark is actually part of resort that also includes a hotel and conference center. The camera is in a great position, you can see several slides. I think it’s been too cold down there for anyone to go right now, I’ll have to check this out again in the spring.
